The Gallery Cafe is a not-for-profit vegetarian/vegan cafe, offering live music, film, visual arts, comedy nights. We also organise larger events, festivals and special seasons throughout the year.

We have film screenings and live music performances every week, ranging from folk and world to blues and jazz music . Check out our what’s on page for more details and upcoming listings. We also offer an exciting menu of veggie and vegan food, as well as teas, coffees and fresh juices and a range of alcoholic drinks in the evenings. Peruse our menu for more details.

Staged in the stunning venues of St. Matthew’s Church and St. John’s Church, The Orain Series is a new venture for St. Margaret’s House, a registered charity in East London, Bethnal Green, committed to creating truly unique and captivating live music experiences.

Bethnal Green Film Society

Bethnal Green Film Society is an exciting new up and coming film club which is to take place at The Chapel Cinema. Our aim is to engage and bring the community together by screening a wide range of stunning cult films, classics as well as contemporary and avant-garde films of different genres, decades and countries for all ages to enjoy. Highlights you can expect to experience alongside the film screenings will also consist of film quizzes with special prizes for the winner as well as film discussions and free popcorn. A must night out for any film fan…we hope to see you in The Chapel soon!

November is officially men’s health month and being such a thoughtful film society that we are we couldn’t let this pass unnoticed and so have decided to screen a month of male/buddy films to coincide with this.

In Bruges (Martin McDonagh-2008-107 minutes)

Thursday 3rd November/7.00pm/Free

Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson star as two London based hit men who are ordered by their boss Harry Waters (Ralph Fiennes) to lay low in Bruges, Belgium for up to two weeks after their last job and he will be in touch with further instructions. While they wait for Harry’s call, Ken (Brendan Gleeson), takes in the sights of the medieval city with great appreciation, but the charms of Bruges are lost on the despondent Ray (Colin Farrell). It soon becomes clear that their presence in this northern European town has something to do with an earlier, catastrophically botched job and a terrible anguish that Ray is carrying in his heart. However, things change for Ray when he meets Chloe, part of a film crew shooting a movie. When Harry’s instructions arrive, Ken, for who the job is directed isn’t sure if he can carry out the job. While Ken weighs up his options he waits for the inevitable arrival into Bruges of an angry Harry…

Director Martin McDonagh has created a unique and original script in In Bruges with great comedic one liners that convey a darker undertone as we delve deeper into the plot. Featuring some knockout performances this film has won much acclaim from critics as well as winning several awards including a BAFTA for best original screenplay, we think you’ll agree with us that this is like nothing you’ve ever seen before.

Every other month we will be showcasing three exceptional artists and offering Open Mic slots for anybody who wants to share their work.

Melange Arts Presents Anselmo Netto Quintet – Friday 24th June

Born and raised in Bahia, Brazil, Anselmo had a highly successful career touring and recording in Brazil for many yeas. After moving to London, around 4 years ago, he quickly became one of the most sought-after musicians on the London scene.

Both as percussionist and mandolin player, he has been exploring new musical horizons and expanding his sound by mixing Native Brazilian rhythms with a wide range of global influences which he has encountered in the UK.

Netto has perfomed with many artists including Heidi Vogel, Zoe Rahman, Idris, Rahman, Gilberto Gil, Antonio Forcione etc and now presents his own unique Quintet.

Italian singer-guitarist and songwriter, her repertoire is composed of songs influenced by bossa nova rhythms, swing and folk-pop with large use of impro and some jazz arrangements. Accompanying her on vocal and guitar the line up is Jonny Phillips on guitar, Gerry Hunt on flute, clarinet and sax, and Francesco Corallini on percussion.
